Consider the remaining natural tooth structure before choosing a restoration.

Restorative Dentistry · Digital Dentistry · International Dental Education
From preserving natural tooth structure to manufacturing restorations digitally.
Dr Ahmed Korayem brings more than two decades of clinical practice and international teaching to restorative dentistry, aesthetic treatment, and digital technology.
His work explores how new techniques can improve clinical practice while keeping treatment decisions grounded in the needs of each case.
A Career Built in Restorative Dentistry
Dr Ahmed Korayem is an Egyptian clinician and international lecturer whose work spans aesthetic, restorative, and digital dentistry.
He graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry at Alexandria University and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD) and a Sustaining Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD).
His early clinical and educational work focused on adhesive dentistry, composite restorations and conservative treatment.
Those foundations continue to shape how he approaches new materials, digital planning and restorative technologies.
The Case Comes Before the Technique
Restorative dentistry is rarely a choice between one universally good material and another universally bad one.
The condition of the tooth, the functional demands of the case and the available treatment options all matter.
Dr Korayem's clinical approach starts with understanding what needs to be treated, what can be preserved, and what each restorative option can realistically offer.
What Guides the Clinical Decision?
Match the properties and limitations of the material to the clinical situation.
Assess the demands a restoration must withstand in daily function.
Think about maintenance, possible complications and repairability from the start.
Technology can expand the options. Clinical assessment determines which options deserve consideration.
From Smile Design to Digital Manufacturing
Rethinking Smile Planning in 3D
In 2015, Dr Korayem was involved in the development of 3DSD, an early three-dimensional approach to digital smile design.
The work addressed a practical challenge: transferring planning from a two-dimensional image into a three-dimensional restorative result.
Instead of treating that transfer as an unavoidable step, the approach explored how the design process could begin in three dimensions.
3D Printing in Restorative Practice
Dr Korayem's clinical work now integrates intraoral scanning, digital smile design, CAD/CAM and in-house 3D printing into aesthetic and restorative treatment planning.
His recent educational focus includes permanent 3D printed restorations, with attention to:
- Case selection and clinical indications
- Material selection
- Digital design
- Post-processing and finishing
- Bonding considerations
Not every restoration needs to be printed. The important question is when a digitally manufactured restoration is a suitable clinical choice.
Clinical Experience Shared
Across 17 Countries
Dr Ahmed Korayem has lectured across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States, sharing his experience in aesthetic, restorative, and digital dentistry.
Selected International Appearances
At GNYDM, he presented clinical 3D-printed restorative cases in collaboration with Zylo3D.
His educational collaborations have also included Ivoclar Vivadent, Kuraray and Planmeca, with more recent work involving SprintRay.
His teaching connects clinical cases, scientific principles, and practical workflows — including the limitations and decisions that can be overlooked in a technique demonstration.
Clinical Courses Built Around Real Decisions
Dr Korayem's clinical education brings case-based discussion and hands-on application together.
His 3D Printed Restorations Clinical Course explores the full process from case selection and material choice to digital design, printing, post-processing, finishing, and bonding principles.
The focus is not simply on completing a workflow, but on understanding why each stage is appropriate for the case being treated.
